Integrity 2A interview with WDTN

About me

Welcome! First things first, my name's Michael, and I'm so thankful you stopped by!

To provide a bit of my training background, I was very fortunate to start learning the ins and outs of shooting and safety from a young age. My uncle taught my brother and I how to hunt, be safe, and generally enjoy the sport and rights we enjoy as Americans. That being said, we didn't really grow up with firearms in our home, outside of some paintball and BB guns until much later. Everything we got to use was my uncle's. I shot archery a lot though, so I did have a few compound bows at home.

When I turned 21, my gift to myself was to buy my first handgun, and complete a CCW class. Back then it was a 12 hour class... I carried to and from school for my daily commute to UC while in undergrad. I continued to carry as often as possible, but my ability to carry dropped off when I started working at a school (prior to changing Ohio law, entire school zones were no carry zones). I'm very thankful that Ohio laws were later changed to allow carry within school zones.

My wife and I moved to Dayton, OH in 2017, and I found myself looking for extra work to pay for my Masters of Education. I joined up with a local big name range, and after 6 months with them they wanted me to get certified as an instructor. I earned my NRA RSO and NRA Pistol qualifications in early 2018. By late 2018 I was selected as the Lead Instructor for my store. I served in that role until mid 2020 after my son was born, when my time demands were no longer within my control :) 2019 afforded me even more awesome opportunities to grow as an instructor! I was given the opportunity to train at Delta Defense/USCCA to become a Training Counselor, and was hands down one of the greatest honors I've had! The curriculum is awesome, informative, and in depth.

Recently I decided to build my own business so that I could use and adapt the curriculum to match my students' needs in ways I felt worked best. My full time job is being a Special Education Teacher that works directly in the general classroom to support typical and non-typical students, and so I bring a lot of my assessment and teaching techniques into my classroom as a firearms instructor. Come take a class and lets build your confidence, competence, and safety together!

Mission

My goal in creating Integrity 2A was to always meet students where they are in ability, help them build their safety, competence, and confidence,  and finally to help save lives. In order to meet this mission, our classes are always small, and student focused.

Vision

Where do I want to go with this company? Overall I just want to see it grow as I get to teach students to be safe and effective with their self defense tools. When I teach, I believe that if I do my job well enough, students will then go on to teach others how to be safe and effective. My hope and dream with this is that lives would be protected and even saved through using proper safety techniques, as well as self defense techniques. For me safety is personal, as I lost a former school student to unsafe practices in the home. With every chance I get to teach, his memory is in the back of my mind.
